# Offers and vouchers

An offer is what you publish. A package is one purchasable variant of it with its own price and inventory. A voucher is what the customer ends up holding. Offers are either issued, which are free and price-locked at zero, or purchased, which customers pay for.

Three words that get used interchangeably and should not be.

## Offer, package, voucher

The offer is the listing. Packages are the variants a customer chooses between,
each with its own price, optional inventory cap and benefits. The voucher is
what they hold afterwards.

## Issued against purchased

Issued offers are granted, not sold, and their price is forced to zero in the
interface and on the server. Joining bonuses and promotion rewards draw from
them. Purchased offers are paid for up front, and a voucher exists only because
a payment succeeded.

## Editing unpublishes

Editing a published offer returns it to draft and records a workflow event. That
is deliberate: a price or inventory change is not something to slip out to
customers unseen.
