# What is the six-character code?

The six-character code is a short text code, such as FQS2Y9, that identifies the same customer the QR code does. It exists for when a camera will not read the screen. Unlike the pass barcode, it does not rotate, so staff can be told it out loud and type it in.

Every Fidella customer has one, and it is displayed on the wallet pass
alongside the barcode.

## What it is for

Cracked screens, dead batteries on the scanner, bright sunlight, a phone at four
percent. Cameras fail in cafes more often than anyone plans for, and the fallback
has to be something a person can read aloud.

## It does not rotate

The scannable barcode changes on a timer for security. This code does not, which
is exactly what makes it usable manually. It identifies a customer; it does not
by itself authorise anything, because staff actions are bound to a signed-in
staff member at a specific venue.
