# What is a site public ID?

A site public ID is the short public identifier for a venue, such as krsyhg5efr. It appears in venue page addresses, signup links and printed QR codes. It is deliberately not the internal database identifier, so what gets printed on a poster can be public safely.

## Why not just use the name

Names change, and they collide. An identifier that is short, opaque and stable
survives a rebrand without invalidating anything already printed.
