# Why was I asked to approve something on my phone?

Because the redemption spends something you hold, so the decision is yours rather than the staff member's. Read the prompt, then approve or decline. Nothing is deducted unless you approve, and ignoring it simply lets the request expire.

The prompt is a safeguard, not a formality.

## When you will not be asked

If you opened a voucher and showed its own code, you have already said which
voucher you meant and that you wanted to use it. That is the approval, so no
prompt appears. The prompt belongs to the other route, where staff scan your
usual code and pick the voucher for you.

## Why it exists

Adding a stamp is low stakes. Spending something you hold is not, so the
confirmation goes to the person whose value it is rather than to the person
operating the scanner.

## Declining is a normal outcome

If the amount is wrong, if you changed your mind, or if you do not recognise the
request, decline it. Nothing is deducted.

## Expired and cancelled are final

An approval that expired or was cancelled shows as a final state. It is not
something you can revive from that screen; the venue simply starts again.
