What are loyalty points?

Points count the money a customer spends. Spend a dollar, earn a set number of points. Stamps count things instead, so a business picks one or the other and cannot run both.

Also called: Loyalty points.

A business picks points or stamps when it sets up, and cannot run both. Which one suits it depends on whether the things it sells cost about the same.

When points fit better

Points suit a business where prices vary a lot. A stamp treats a flat white and a full lunch the same way. If a big order earns the same as the smallest one, your best customers are getting your worst deal.

When stamps fit better

Stamps suit a business where most sales are about the same size, most obviously a cafe. They are also much easier to explain, and a programme a customer cannot explain to a friend spreads slowly.
