Loyalty has a lot of words that sound interchangeable and are not. Each one gets a page.

  • Breakage

    Issued value that is never redeemed.

  • Burn rate

    How quickly customers spend accumulated loyalty credit.

  • Chargeback

    A card issuer reversing a payment at the cardholder's request.

  • Churn

    Customers who stop coming back over a given period.

  • Coalition loyalty

    A programme shared across multiple independent businesses.

  • Cohort retention

    Tracking how long groups of customers who joined together keep coming back.

  • Consent

    A customer's informed agreement to join and to be contacted.

  • Customer lifetime value

    The total margin a customer generates over the whole relationship.

  • Earn rate

    How quickly a customer builds up credit towards a reward.

  • Expiry

    The optional date after which a voucher can no longer be redeemed.

  • Fidella tier

    A customer's network-wide standing: bronze through to diamond.

  • First month free

    One fully waived month per venue, granted once and never repeated.

  • First-party data

    Customer information a business collects directly from its own customers.

  • Gross margin

    The share of a sale left after the direct cost of what you sold.

  • GST

    New Zealand goods and services tax, added on top of quoted Fidella prices.

  • Held payout

    Money a merchant has earned that Fidella cannot yet transfer.

  • Inventory cap

    A limit on how many of an offer package can be sold or issued.

  • Issuance delay

    A configurable wait of 1 to 24 hours before a joining bonus is granted.

  • Issued offer

    An offer a venue grants for free, priced at zero and never sold.

  • Joining bonus

    A voucher a venue grants on a customer's first qualifying scan.

L

  • Ledger event

    A permanent record that something happened, kept so the numbers can be checked later.

  • Lifecycle state

    Where a venue sits in its life: pending review, active, suspended, declined.

  • Listing blocked

    The venue is invisible to the public entirely, free content included.

  • Loyalty liability

    The value of outstanding rewards and unused vouchers you still owe.

  • Loyalty programme

    A structured scheme that rewards repeat custom with earned value.

  • Loyalty rules

    A venue's configuration: earning mode, what qualifies, and the reward threshold.

  • Offer

    Something a business publishes for customers to buy, which issues a voucher.

P

  • Package

    One purchasable variant of an offer, with its own price and inventory.

  • Payout

    The transfer of settled money from Fidella to a merchant's account.

  • Points

    Loyalty credit that counts the money spent, rather than the things bought.

  • Privacy Act 2020

    New Zealand's privacy law, which governs customer data in a loyalty programme.

  • Promotion

    A rule that fires automatically at scan time, with nothing bought.

  • Punch card

    A paper loyalty card marked by hand on each qualifying visit.

  • Purchased offer

    An offer a customer pays for, issuing a voucher on successful payment.

  • Redemption

    Spending earned or held value: taking the reward, using the voucher.

  • Redemption approval

    A customer confirming a spend-like redemption before it completes.

  • Redemption rate

    The share of issued rewards or vouchers that customers actually use.

  • Refund

    Returning a paid voucher's value to the original purchaser's card.

  • Repeat purchase rate

    The share of customers who buy more than once.

  • Reward

    What a customer unlocks on reaching a stamp or points threshold.

  • Reward threshold

    How many stamps or points a customer needs before a reward unlocks.

  • RFM

    Segmenting customers by recency, frequency and monetary value.

  • Rotating barcode

    A wallet pass code whose value changes on a timer, so screenshots stop working.

  • Sales blocked

    The venue is visible but cannot take money, so paid content is hidden.

  • Scan

    A staff member identifying a customer, opening a bounded session of actions.

  • Scan session

    The bounded window after a scan in which staff can act on a customer's account.

  • Settlement

    Working out what a merchant is owed after fees, and paying it out.

  • Signup QR

    The venue's code that turns a walk-in customer into a loyalty member.

  • Site

    One venue: the unit loyalty, branding, staff and billing all attach to.

  • Site admin

    Someone who administers a venue: its rules, branding, offers and team.

  • Site public ID

    The short public identifier for a venue, used in links and QR codes.

  • Site tier

    A customer's standing at one particular venue: bronze, silver, gold or onyx.

  • Six-character code

    A short text code that identifies a customer when a camera will not cooperate.

  • Staff

    A team member who can scan customers and perform counter actions.

  • Stamp

    One step towards a reward, earned by buying something the business has chosen.

  • Streak

    A run of consecutive periods with activity, used to reward consistency.

  • Stripe Connect

    The payout rail. Not a gate on selling.

  • Subscription band

    The price step a venue sits on, set by its active loyal customer count.

T

  • Team access

    Controlling who at a venue can act on customers, and at what level.

  • Tiered loyalty

    A programme where sustained custom moves people into better-rewarded levels.

  • Transaction

    A recorded loyalty event at a venue: a stamp earned, a reward redeemed.

  • Transaction fee

    A percentage of redeemed value, netted from the payout at settlement.

  • Venue page

    A venue's public page in Fidella, listing its programme and offers.

  • Visit frequency

    How often a customer comes back over a given period.

  • Voucher

    An entitlement a customer holds and can redeem at the business that issued it.

  • Voucher status

    Where a voucher is in its life: issued, claimed, redeemed, expired, refunded, void.

W

  • Wallet pass

    A loyalty card installed in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

  • XP

    The internal score that feeds the nightly Fidella tier calculation.
