How does the free start period work?
Every new venue is free for its first 30 days. After that it stays free until its first bill, which is always on the 8th of a month, so the free start is between 30 days and about two months. Each venue gets it once, and a venue that closes and reopens does not get it again.

Why it runs to the 8th
Every venue is billed on the 8th of each month. Your free start runs for 30 days and then carries on until the next 8th. That way you are never charged for a few odd days before your first full month.
You will see the date before you start
The signup screen shows the date of your first bill, and so does the billing page in your admin area once you are set up.
It is recorded against the venue
The free start is recorded against the venue itself. That is why it survives a pause, a reopening or a change of account without ever being given twice.
A card is still collected
Free means you are not charged during that time. It does not mean no payment method is required.
Common questions
Why is it longer than 30 days?
Every venue is billed on the 8th of the month. Rather than charge you for a few odd days, your free start runs on until your first bill on the 8th.
Is it per business or per venue?
Per venue. A business opening three locations gets a free start for each of them, because each is billed separately.
What if I pause and come back?
The free start is already recorded against that venue, so reopening it does not give you another.
